Please read our safeguarding policy to protect adults and children. Posters of Changing Room Rules are posted on the changing room doors and there is a unisex disabled changing room on the promenade level. The male changing room has an open shower but an enclosed shower is available in the men's toilet. Ladies have 3 enclosed showers. RYA advice in a communal shower is Shower in Your Swimmers. Policy Statement
Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club is committed to safeguarding children taking part in its activities from physical, sexual or emotional harm, neglect or bullying. We recognise that the safety, welfare and needs of the child are paramount and that any child, irrespective of age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual or gender identity or social status, has a right to protection from discrimination and abuse.
Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club takes all reasonable steps to ensure that, through safe recruitment, appropriate operating procedures and training, it offers a safe and fun environment to children taking part in its events and activities.
For the purposes of this policy anyone under the age of 18 should be considered as a child. All members of the Club should be aware of the policy.

Staff and Volunteers
All Club staff and volunteers whose role brings them into regular contact with young people will be asked to provide references. The Club Welfare Officer and those regularly instructing, coaching or supervising young people will also be asked to apply for an Enhanced Criminal Records Disclosure,
Good Practice
All members of the Club should follow the good practice guidelines attached and agree to abide by the Club Code of Conduct and the RYA Racing Charter contained in the Racing Rules of Sailing. Those working or volunteering with young people should be aware of the guidance on recognising abuse
Adults are requested not to enter the showers and changing rooms at times when children are changing before or after junior/youth training or racing. If this is unavoidable it is advised that they are accompanied by another adult.
The Club will seek written consent from parents/carers before taking photos or video of a child at an event or training session or publishing such images. Parents and spectators should be prepared to identify themselves, if requested, and state their purpose for photography/filming. If the Club publishes images of children, no identifying information other than names will be included. Any concerns about inappropriate or intrusive photography or the inappropriate use of images should be reported to a Club Welfare Officer.
Concerns
Anyone who is concerned about a young member’s or participant’s welfare, either outside the sport or within the Club, should inform the Club Welfare Officer immediately, in strict confidence.
Any member of the Club failing to comply with the Safeguarding policy, or any relevant Codes of Conduct may be subject to disciplinary action.

IOSSC Complaints Procedure
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the club, we would like to hear from you and try to resolve the issue as soon
as possible. We have a complaints procedure that aims to ensure that all complaints are handled fairly, consistently,
and promptly. Complaints are kept secure for length a time defined in our Data Protection Policy.
The following procedure outlines the steps that should be undertaken when making a complaint:
1. Contact the club Secretary at iosscenquiries@outlook.com and explain the nature of your complaint the Secretary should acknowledge your complaint within 48 hours and notify the requisite parties/Officers with a view to resolve it within 14 days.
2. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can escalate your complaint by contacting one or more of the flag officers who should acknowledge your complaint within 48 hours and attempt to resolve it within 14 days.
3. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can escalate your complaint by contacting the Secretary who will appoint a lead General Committee Member to form a group of no less than three General Committee Members to investigate further and subsequently respond within 14 days after their initial meeting has been held.
4. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can request an independent arbitration by contacting the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) who will appoint an arbitrator to hear both sides of the case and make a binding decision within 28 days.
The club endeavours to reply by the timings set above however, reasonable extensions maybe required due to leave and/or utilisation.
If the originator of the complaint has not responded to the outcome advised within 7 days, the complaint will be deemed resolved and no further action will be taken.
Where a potential conflict of interest is deemed to exist, the Secretary may directly proceed a subsequent stage of this procedure.
We hope that you will never have to use this complaints procedure, but we assure you that we will always treat your
complaint seriously and respectfully. We value your feedback, and we strive to improve the club and its facilities for
all our members and guests.
